- Verso reads: "Ship landing point at right rises 700 feet above the boat landing at Pitcairn Island in the South Pacific Ocean. A campaign to fund the improvement of the island's main road has just been completed. The road runs from the boat landing up the so-called 'Hill of Difficulty' to the village of Adamstown where this photo was taken. The road's beginning can be seen at left of boat sheds at the landing. 1788-12; photo copyright Dennis Fahringer, 1991."
